Legal Advice



The Institute of Promotional Marketing offers a range of legal advice, covering UK law and the self-regulatory system that governs UK marketing, as well as international legislation and regulations governing promotional marketing in other countries.

Our renowned and respected Legal Advisory Service provides guidance on the law and the Codes of Practice which govern the UK’s marketing industry, plus promotional copy clearance and industry guidelines to help agencies and brand owners sleep more easily at night!

The Institute of Promotional Marketing LAS has been running for 12 years and has vetted more than 23,000 promotions in that time. To the best of the Institute’s knowledge, not one of those promotions has ever had a complaint upheld against it by the ASA on any matters which were reviewed by the Institute’s LAS.

We also offer an International Legal Advisory Service through our director of legal services, Philip Circus.

The Institute of Promotional Marketing also has a special relationship with law firm Lewis Silkin, which allows members a certain amount of free advice on non-marketing legal matters.

The Legal Advisory Service is also an integral part of the Institute of Promotional Marketing Seal, the first ever consumer-facing activity in the Institute’s 77-year history.
