The Institute of Promotional Marketing sits on the CAP Committee, the self-regulatory body that governs promotional marketing in the UK. We represent the interests of client companies that use promotional marketing techniques, and the agencies and suppliers that support them. We’re here to serve you.
The IPM is founded as the Sales Promotion Association (SPA).
The first SPA Awards are held to recognise excellence in sales promotion.
The SPA is renamed as the Institute of Sales Promotion (ISP).
The ISP launches the ISP Diploma, a professional qualification for the sales promotion industry.
The ISP launches its Code of Conduct and Ethics, setting standards for the industry.
The ISP becomes the Institute of Sales Promotion and Marketing Services (ISPMS) to reflect the expanding scope of the industry.
The ISPMS becomes the Institute of Promotional Marketing (IPM).
The IPM launches the IPM Diploma, a new professional qualification.
The IPM introduces the COGS Awards to recognise the effectiveness of promotional marketing campaigns.
The IPM launches its Membership Charter, setting out the benefits and responsibilities of membership.
The IPM launches its Diversity and Inclusion Council to promote diversity and inclusion in the industry.

IPM Board Members
The Board of the Institute of Promotional Marketing consists of the Chairman, the immediate past-Chairman, nine elected members made up of members from each of the Institute’s three business sectors (brand owners, agencies and service providers) and up to three co-opted members.
The purpose of the co-opted members is to allow the Board, where necessary, to increase its expertise in specific promotional marketing activities or channels.
